Sisterhood School raises awareness and develops a personal understanding of the positive impact being a confident young female can make for her future success.
We're using design and creativity as a vehicle to teach emotional intelligence, self-worth, self-confidence and self-value.
OUR CREATIVE WORKSHOPS HAVE AN INNOVATIVE LEARNING APPROACH WHICH RESULTS IN GIRLS CREATING SOLUTIONS TO THE RISING ISSUES THEY FACE TODAY AND THE IMPACT THAT HAS ON THEIR SELF-ESTEEM.
Self-esteem x Media
Over the last few years, the rise of social media has seen a shift in people’s perspective about themselves, aspirations and how we interact with others - these experiences not always being positive.
Through our research we have found that the various kinds of media we consume today has a devastating impact on a girl's self-esteem. With issues such as body image, peer pressure, career aspirations and confidence plummeting.
Therefore we are particularly interested in focusing on the various issues girls face due to mass media.
Our aim is: To reinvent the media girls consume - one which is created by girls for girls. To give them a voice, ownership and responsibility over what they consume.
PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH
The Sisterhood curriculum we provide uses critical analysis and the design thinking process (double diamond*) to equip girls to become aware of what issues affect them, in order to have the ability to actively challenge and positively contribute to breaking the barriers faced by low self-esteem levels.
An introduction to Sisterhood accompanied by a series of engaging icebreakers and quick activities which encourage girls to participate in expressing their opinions, thoughts and feelings towards a variety of issues e.g. stereotyping, body image etc.
The girls are asked to identify a specific problem that affects their everyday. We encourage them to conduct research surrounding the issue in order to rationally explain what is the need and potential impact if they successfully solve this.
A session where every idea is valued, we encourage girls to lose the inhibition of holding back on potential ideas to the female specific issue they are addressing. The girls form groups based on which identified issue they wish to collaborate on to address.
FOUNDERS + MAKERS
This session gives the opportunity to turn words into actions and make their ideas a reality. With basic, inexpensive materials the girls work together to create a tangible outcome of their idea which is then tested and reviewed by their peers.
