Everyday materials, meaningful messages

COMMUNITY & CIVIC

When we were approached to host a workshop during London Design Festival for the 2019 Brixton Design Trail we were asked to put on an event that amplifies the unique creative culture of Brixton and invites the community to think creatively about global challenges in a local context.

The theme ‘We Belong’ explores what it means to live in the heart of Europe’s most diverse city, and celebrating togetherness so the outcome was hosting an interactive workshop where members of the public could create meaning meaningful messages from everyday local materials.

Spirit of Brixton

In collaboration with Kriti Monga; a designer, illustrator and the brain child behind Typerventions from India, who uses everyday materials to spell meaningful messages in Brixton during Brixton Design Festival.

Brixton Design Trail theme, ‘We Belong’, is all about celebrating togetherness by “exploring what it means to live in the heart of Europe’s most diverse city”. No neighbourhood in London has a more vibrant, multidiverse vibe than Bohemian spirited, colour - craft - flavour - music - filled Brixton.

From electrical tape, poms-poms and 100 pieces of origami all the way to frozen chips, coffee and tomatoes. Befittingly, the local community celebrated a day of joy, creating together with local everyday materials that reflect this spirit.
