Changemakers Building Businesses &
Becoming the Future Leaders We Need

“With 16-25 year olds founding 18 times more businesses now than in 2018” (The Rose Review 2022)
How might we work together to nurture young entrepreneurial talent?

“I am interested in entrepreneurship because it takes one idea from one person to make a change. I believe my business is necessary for my community.”

— Mashara - Sisterhood Changemaker

Shattering the entrepreneurial glass ceiling

The Rose Review 2022 illuminates that youth entrepreneurship is accelerating and more women than ever are starting new businesses which brings a tremendous amount of opportunity for economic growth if this talent is treated as a matter of priority. Alison Rose recorded a hearty and inspiring message for our Changemakers…

“Young female entrepreneurs like you are not only innovative and inspiring but have a critical role to play in the future of the creative industry and the health of the economy as a whole. The UK is already a global leader in the creative industries but supporting more women-led businesses to grow and flourish will only help boost the sector even further.”

- Alison Rose, CEO Natwest

“As entrepreneurs, creatives and co-founders of Sisterhood we have experienced the good, the bad and the gaps that exist for young creative entrepreneurs trying to pilot, scale and grow. Access to entrepreneurship must start with education; which is often relegated to school and whilst this is important, school is not the only place of learning. We need opportunities to exist outside of traditional academics, place entrepreneurial education in the context of the real world.”

A Dream Team to Dream Bigger With

Together with our incredible social impact partner Vans Europe and collaborator NatWest we produced the Sisterhood Summer: Business for Purpose Launchpad.

An intensive programme creating the pathways for the next generation of confident and creative changemakers, leaders and founders to identify a particular social/environmental issue they would like to make better through business with the resources, knowledge and support of their businesses to flourish.

🎉 Pitch Night 🎉

After a jam-packed couple of days for the Changemakers building their businesses, formulating their Theory of Change, conducting market research, art-directing their brand identity and landing the ingredients for their purpose, mission, vision and values - it was pitch time. We were hosted by Soho House 180 Strand where we gathered on the last evening of the programme with business and financial professionals, creative experts as well as some familiar faces to cheer our Changemakers on.

In turn each Changemaker pitched their business ideas for 5 minutes and proposed an ask which included the type of mentor they are looking for beyond the programme. Mentors were in the audience and were briefed to identify Changemakers they could specifically support beyond the programme.

A shout-out to our Changemaker toolkit sponsors and yummy snack sponsors that kept us fuelled during the week and at the the pitch 👉

We came, we created, we conquered!

And if the Pitch Night didn’t leave us all on a high, the celebration hosted at and by House of Vans definitely did.

We started the morning with some deep reflection on our collective and individual experience at Sisterhood Summer, going through our pitches and what is next for the future founders! It all ended with a fantastic celebration meal, having way too much fun in the personalised photo booth and getting creative with Rosie!

Creating Change
Supporting Changemakers
Building Sisterhoods

We asked our Changemakers before the programme for their opinions on entrepreneurship, support available to young people starting businesses and, to tell us what they need more of to pursue their interests and passions.

As the Business for Purpose Launchpad wrapped up we asked them to reflect on their experience with Sisterhood, NatWest and Vans and the support provided to build a business for good from the ground up.

Check out what they said.

“Since being in the sisterhood programme, my confidence has increased profoundly. I now know that I can confidently present my ideas in front of new people. I am aware of how capable I am of starting a business, people can really picture my idea being a real thing. In turn, this has boosted my confidence massively.”

Mashara - Founder of First Steps

“After the pitch night, I’ve realised I can generate ideas and have a creative side to me, something I thought I had lost. I have learned to be a leader, which will help me in the future to lead and manage projects just like I led my business idea this week.”

Aya - Founder of Skyspace

“Since being at Sisterhood I know I am someone who is without a doubt, capable of making my ideas a reality and I now know that I am someone who is able to create change as feedback from my pitch was all positive and described my ideas as disruptive/trailblazer in a good way!

Senny - Founder of Metanoia
